Our kids are active with football, soccer, cheer, hockey, so many great fall sports activities. How do you know if that bump, that fall your child took didn't include a concussion.

Growing up playing sports, kids can be pretty reckless and overly aggressive. Playing as hard as you can is the name of the game. But with that comes a serious risk of concussion.

When I was a kid you would bang heads, fall over and maybe "see stars". Catch a "dinger" as It was called, you thought nothing of it. Years later we learned that every time this happens it is a mild form of a concussion. Literally I was taught that in football, you lead with your helmet...it's a weapon, use it.

Times have changed and many studies have been done proving how serious these "dingers" are. Youth sports have made dramatic changes in how a sport is practiced and played, and it really is a good thing.

If your child is involved in sports, and you think an injury they suffered might me a concussion. According to Cleveland here are 10 Signs Your Child’s Concussion Is Serious:

  • Severe or worsening headache or ringing in the ears
  • Neck pain
  • Vomiting
  • Increasing confusion or dizziness
  • Fainting, drowsiness
  • Seizures
  • Slurred speech
  • Numbness in arms or legs
  • Watery discharge from the nose or ears
  • Pupils that are unequal in size

There is always going to be "that parent" that lives through their child and pushes them way to hard to "toughen them up", so if you are at your child's sporting event keep an eye out for other kids it may save their life.
